Pana Chand Nanak Chand Kothari family of Azimganj

Pana Chand Nanak Chand Kothari family is among the famous and renowned families of Azimganj. The widowed wife of late Pana Chand Kothari brought her young son Nanak Chand from Rini (Presently Tara Nagar) in Rajasthan with her to Azimganj. Nanak Chand was only 5 years old at that time. Perhaps some family members (Cousins?) were already residing at Azimganj at that time and the widow of late Pana Chand Kothari was called by them.

Nanak Chand Kothari was married to a girl from the famous Harakh Chand Golechha family and had three sons 1. Nihal Chand Kothari 2. Kamala Pat Kothari 3. Tarachand Kothari. Nihal Chand Kothari was married to Raja Bijoy Singh Dudhoria's family and had no sons but only daughters. Kamlapat Kothari was married to the daughter of Narpat Singh Dugar of the famous Rai Dhanpat Singh Dugar family in Azimganj.

He had four sons 1. Chandra Pat Kothari 2. Champa Pat Kothari 3. Narendra Pat Kothari and 4. Jitendra Pat Kothari. Late Sri Narendra Pat Kothari was a freedom fighter and was elected as Vice-Chairman, of Jiaganj-Azimganj Municipality. Chandrapat Kothari was also elected as a counselor for the said municipality. He and his son Gajendrapat served as a treasurer of Sri Neminath Swami Panchayati temple, Azimganj. 

Tara Chand Kothari, youngest son of Nanak Chand was married to the Bachchhawat family and had four sons 1. Abhay Chand 2. Rikhab Chand 3. Padam Chand and 4. Vimal Chand Kothari.

Chandraapat Kothari had three sons 1. Samarendra Pat married to Putul Kumari D/O Mohanlal Mahamwal 2. Gajendra Pat married Aruna Kumari of the Sethia family and 3. Dhirendra Pat married Kusum Kumari of the Rai Badridas Bahadur Mookim family. Jyoti Kumar Kothari, the blog writer is the only son of late Sri Dhirendra Pat Kothari. 

The Kothari family was known for their religious activities, knowledge, and devotion to the Jain religion. Kothari family along with the Bothra family had occupied the driving seat for all religious activities at Azimganj. whether it was Chaturmas, Paryushan, Navpad Oli, Navpad Mandal Pujan, or daily rituals at the temples.

Most of the family members are residing nowadays outside Azimganj especially in Kolkata, Jaipur, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ganpatganj etc in India. Some of the family members are residing out of India.

रीति रिवाज: शहरवाली समाज में दिवाली

दिवाली पूजन 

शहरवाली समाज में दिवाली मानाने की अपनी ही परंपरा रही है जो की अन्य अनेक समाजों से अलग है. यहाँ दिवाली का धूमधाम कई दिन पहले से ही शुरू हो जाता था. हर जगह की तरह यहाँ भी दिवाली की सफाई कई दिनों पहले से शुरू हो जाती थी और पुरे घर की सफाई एवं रंग रोगन कराया जाता था.

इस त्यौहार पर बहन बेटियों को चीनी भेज कर देहली पूजने का न्योता दिया जाता था. धनतेरस के पहले बहन बेटियां पीहर आ कर वहां की देहली (चौखट) की पूजा करती थी. यह शाम के समय हुआ करता था और ऐसा माना जाता था की इससे उनके लिए पीहर के दरवाजे हमेशा खुले रहेंगे। देहली में चढ़ाया हुआ सामान फल मिठाई आदि घर के बच्चे लोग खाते थे साथ ही उस दिन बहन बेटियों को जीमा कर शकुन के रूप में कुछ रुपये दिए जाते थे.

दिवाली के उत्सव पर बड़े पैमाने पर मिठाई नमकीन बनाने का रिवाज था, बाजार से मिठाई बहुत काम ही आता था. नाइन पड्यांनी लोग आ कर घर की औरतों के साथ मिठाई बनवाती थी. इस मिठाई नमकीन में उनका भी हिस्सा होता था. दिवाली पर बहन बेटियों, रिश्तेदारों के घर मिठाई भेजी जाती थी. दीपावली पर खास तौर से जमाव, गुजिया, लड्डू, संकली आदि शहरवाल मिठाई बनती थी.

दिवाली के दिन सुबह से ही पुरे घर में खास काट अंगने में रंगोली (आल्पोना) बनाया जाता था. प्रायः कुंवारी लड़कियां रंगोली बनाने में उत्साह से भाग लेती थी. हर कमरे के बहार लक्ष्मी जी के चरण अंदर आते हुए बनाये जाते थे।  शाम को दिवाली पूजा जाता था. खास तौर से इस दिन हटरी (भगवन का समवशरण) की पूजा होतो थी. साथ ही गणेश एवं लक्ष्मी पूजन भी होता था. पूजा में चाँदी  सिक्कों का भी पक्षाल किया जाता था.

महावीर स्वामी के चौमुख देशना के प्रतीक स्वरुप चौघडा रखा जाता था जिसमे खोई भरा जाता था. चौघडे के ऊपर चौमुख दीपक रखा जाता था यह दीपक रातभर अखंड जलता था. दीपक के बुझने को अशुभ मन जाता था इसलिए रातभर उस्ली निगरानी राखी जाती थी और बारबार उसमे घी डाला जाता था.  दरवाली के दिए से काजल बनाना बड़ा शुभ मन जाता था और उस काजल को सबलोग लगते थे. नाइन पडयणि लोग भी लड्डू चढाने के बाद एकम की सुबह काजल लगाने आती थी और उन्हें शगुन के रूप में रुपये दिए जाते थे.

दूसरे दिन शुबह जल्दी उठ कर निर्वाण के उपलक्ष्य में लड्डू चढाने मंदिर जाते थे और गौतम रास का पाठ करते थे.

अजीमगंज - जियागंज के शहरवाली समाज में यतियों का बड़ा बोलबाला था और वो लोग मन्त्र तंत्र विद्या में निपुण होते थे. बहुत से लोग यतियों / श्रीपूज्यों से मन्त्र ले कर दिवाली के तीन दिन तेला कर उन मन्त्रों का जाप किया करते थे, यह जाप सिद्धिदाता माना जाता था. अगर श्रीपूज्य जी महाराज का चौमासा होता तो वो तेल कर जरूर से मन्त्र आराधना करते थे. तीन दिन तक एकांत बंद कमरे में रहते थे और किसी से भी नहीं मिलते। एकम के दिन लड्डू चढाने से पीला बंद कमरे से बहार निकलते और वसुधारा के पाठ से मंगलिक देते थे. इस मांगलिक का बहुत अधिक महत्व था और इसे सर्व कल्याणकारी माना जाता था.

दूज के दिन भाई दूज मनाया जाता था. भाई दूज के लिए बहन भाई को न्योता भेजती थी और भाई बहन के घर जाता था. इसमें खास बात ये थी की राखी पर बहन न्योता नहीं देती थी, भाई अपने आप बहन के घर जाता था परन्तु भाई दूज में बहन स्वर बुलावा भेजना आवश्यक था. परिवार में चचेरी, ममेरी, फुफेरी, दूर दूर तक के रिश्ते की बहनो से तिलक कराया जाता था. यदि किसी रिश्ते को निभाना संभव न हो और भाई रिश्ता न निभाना चाहे तो वो राखी पर नहीं जाता था और यदि बहन अपनी तरफ से न निभाना चाहे तो वो भाई दूज को न्योता नहीं भेजती थी.

How to develop rural tourism in Azimganj and Jiaganj?

The Government of India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is willing to develop rural tourism in India that can support the livelihood of local people. I have suggested to the government how to develop rural tourism in Azimganj and Jiaganj. Azimganj and Jiaganj are small towns in Murshidabad district in West Bengal, and these are places of historic importance. The small towns are situated on two sides of the river Bhagirathi - Ganga. There are large numbers of Jain and Hindu temples along with a few palaces in these towns. We can develop places for tourist attractions. There are tiny villages near the towns Azimganj and Jiaganj, which could also be developed as tourist places and become a tool to strengthen the rural economy.

Baranagar, the former capital of Rani Bhvani, a nearby village, is famous for its Shiva temple. The Char Bangla and Bhavanishwar temples are famous for their terracotta art. Large numbers of Jain temples with awesome architecture are added attractions (Kathgola and Kiriteshwari temples are a few of those) with several tombs from the Muslim period.

1. Sailing boats on the Ganga is great fun. Large numbers of oarsmen can be employed, provided facilities for sailing boats on the Ganga.

2. Large numbers of trees, animals, and birds (Flora and Fauna) are found in this area. A biodiversity park can be developed for Eco-tourism.

3. The small town has a cluster of Hindu and Jain temples, making the place ideal for Spiritual tourism.

4. The district produces a huge quantity of different varieties of mango. The district perhaps has been producing the highest varieties of mangoes in the world. A mango festival in the summer can be organized to attract tourists.

5. Jain people living in the town known as Shaharwali have excellent recipes in their basket. These vegetarian foods are exclusive and made in the place only. Shaharwali food festival can prove a bonanza for the tourists, especially for the vegetarians and vegans.

6. Bank of Ganga, villages full of trees and birds create a beautiful, charming, and healthy. This place can be proved as CONVALESCENT. Hence, Medical tourism can also be promoted.

7. World's longest swimming competition takes place in Murshidabad district (Ahiran Ghat, Jangipur to Sadarghat, Berhampur, 73 KM). Swimmers worldwide swim in River Bhagirathi Ganga and passes through Azimganj - Jiaganj. However, this great event is not extensively covered by the print and electronic media. Promoting this event will be beneficial for tourism in the place.

There are railway stations, a bus stand, and other facilities such as primary health center, market place, inn, motels  are available in the town.

भागीरथी गंगा की निर्मलता में शहरवाली समाज का योगदान

शहरवाली समाज सदा से ही महान कार्यों में अग्रणी रहा है. चाहे व्यापार हो, जमींदारी  हो, मंदिर बनवाना हो या साधर्मी वात्सल्य शहरवाली समाज का योगदान हमेशा ही सराहनीय रहा है. भारत के स्वतंत्रता संग्राम में भी यहाँ के जैनों ने बड़ी भूमिका निभाई है तभी तो महात्मा गांधी और नेताजी सुभाष जैसे लोग यहाँ पर आना पसंद करते थे.

भारत के प्रधान मंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने  नमामि गंगे के नाम से गंगा की सफाई का महा अभियान छेड़ा है. अजीमगंज और जियागंज भागीरथी गंगा के दोनों किनारे में बसे हुए हैं. शहरवाली समाज में नाव के सैल का बड़ा प्रचलन रहा है साथ ही गंगा जी में नहाने का भी. इस समाज से गंगा का बड़ा पुराना  नाता है. ऐसी स्थिति में हमारा कर्तव्य भी बनता है की गंगा की सफाई के काम में हम आगे आएं और फिर से दुनिया को बता दें की शहरवाली समाज देश हित के कार्य में सदा अग्रणी रहता है. भागीरथी गंगा की निर्मलता में हमारा योगदान अवश्य होना चाहिए।

अभी कुछ वर्षों पूर्व ही आदरणीय प्रणव मुखर्जी ने जंगीपुर को अपना चुनाव क्षेत्र चुना था और अजीमगंज उनके चुनाव क्षेत्र में ही आता है. प्रणव बाबू पहले भारत के वित्त मंत्री बने और फिर माननीय राष्ट्रपति। वित्त मंत्री रहते हुते उन्होंने इस जिले मुर्शिदाबाद के लिए  कुछ पैकेज भी दिए थे जिससे गंगा पर कुछ बांध आदि भी बनने थे.  हमें इस कार्य को और आगे बढ़ाना है.

हमारे प्रधान मंत्री का आह्वान है की जो भी काम करना हो सब मिलकर करें अकेली सरकार कुछ नहीं कर सकती है. केवल सरकार के भरोसे काम नहीं हो सकता। हम कुछ आगे बढ़ें कुछ कदम बढ़ाएं और सरकार को भी अपनी भागीदारी निभाने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करें।

मुझे पूरा विश्वास है की अजीमगंज जियागंज मुर्शिदाबाद का शहरवाली समाज इस पवित्र कार्य में अपनी पूरी भागीदारी निभा कर देश के आगे एक मिशाल कायम करेगा।

एक बात मैं विशेष रूप से कहना चाहूंगा की विश्व की सबसे लम्बी तैराकी प्रतियोगिता जंगीपुर से बरहमपुर तक (७३ किमी) आयोजित की जाती है. यह सम्पूर्ण यात्रा भागीरथी गंगा में मुर्शिदाबाद जिले में से हो कर ही गुजरती है. विश्व भर के तैराकों को इस प्रतियोगिता के दौरान अजीमगंज- जियागंज हो कर ही जाना पड़ता है. इसके साथ ही जियागंज से बरहमपुर तक १९ कीमी  की तैराकी भी होती है. यह प्रतियोगिता पुरे मुर्शिदाबाद जिले के लिए गौरव की बात है और इस गौरव को जीवित रखने के लिए शहरवाली समाज का योगदान बांछनीय है.

Kodamdesar Bhairav Ji, Kuldevata of Kothari family at Azimganj

Kodamdesar Bhairav Ji is Kuldevta of Kothari family of Azimganj. There was a small shrine of the Kuldevta where the Kothari ffamily used to worship their god. A new gorgeous looking temple was built in the place just few years back with contribution of the whole Kothari family. However, the family is indebted to Pradip Kothari, presently living in Hyderabad for his initiaves in building this temple.

Pradip Kothari S/O late Sri Padamchand Kothari has tremendous devotion to the god that inspires him to go Azimganj again and again. He will be organizing a grand Puja ceremony of Bhairav Ji, Kuldevata of Kothari family at Kodamdesar temple. The Puja will be organized on 3rd October, auspicious day of Maha Navami. This is fourth day of Navpad Oli and last day of Navratri.

Several family members will be joining the ceremony.

Pradyot Sethia (Naya Babu) breathed his last in Jaipur

Heartiest condolence for Pradyot Sethia (Naya Babu) who breathed his last in Jaipur on August 31, 2014. His Uthavna took place at Dadabadi, Moti Doongri road, Jaipur on September 2 evening. He was a Shaharwali from Azimganj and I express deepest condolence on behalf of the community. He was son of Sri Keshri Chandji Sethia popularly known as Mama Sethia.

Naya Babu was a man of simplicity and devoted to Jainism. He was class fellow of Acharya Sri Padmasagar Suri.  He used to go Azimganj for observing 9 days Ayambil in Navpad Oli.

शहरवाली होली के रंग और भांग कि तरंग 

होली आ रही है और ऐसे मौके पर अजीमगंज कि होली याद न आये ये कैसे हो सकता है. होली तो भारत में सभी जगह खेली जाती है पर शहरवाली होली कि बात ही कुछ और थी. न सिर्फ रंग अबीर बल्कि पुआ- पकोड़ी और भांग-ठण्डाई! होली के सांग और सैल को भला कौन भूल सकता है. अब तो सब सपने जैसा लगता है।  अजीमगंज छोड़े ३० वर्ष से भी ज्यादा हो गया अब तो बस याद शेष है. होली में बचपन में इतना हुड़दंग करते थे कि …

फाल्गुन शुक्ल पूर्णिमा के दिन होली खेल जाता था और उस दिन पिचकारी भर के रंग डालते थे. मुझे याद है कि मेरे पूज्य पिताजी स्वर्गीय श्री धीरेन्द्र पत जी कोठारी हम बच्चों के साथ होली का खूब आनंद लेते थे. वो जान बुझ कर नया सफ़ेद धोती और अद्दी का कुरता पहन कर सुबह सुबह सामने आ जाते थे. बच्चे तो सब होली के दिन पुराना कपडा पहनते थे।  सफ़ेद नया धोती कुरता देख हमारा मन ललचा जाता था पर थोडा डर भी लगता था. लेकिन हिम्मत कर के मैं उन पर रंग दाल देता था और वो मुस्करा देते थे.

माँ पूवे बनती थीं होली के रंग भरे हाथों से पूवे पकौड़ी खाने का जो मजा… बाल्टी भर रंग घुले पानी किसी को नहला देना। … बलून और मोम से बनाया कुमकुम और फिर रंग छुड़ाने के लिए घंटों गंगा जी में नहाना

दूसरे दिन अबीर से खेलते थे. बड़ों के पैर में अबीर डाल उनसे आशीर्वाद लेते थे और बड़े भी बच्चों के सर पर अबीर डाल देते थे. बराबर कि उम्र वालों के मुह में अबीर मल दिया जाता था. होली के सैल में रामबाग जाते थे वहाँ जलेबी बनती थी कभी कभी दाल बाटी भी.कोई अगर ठंडाई के साथ भांग खा केता तो फिर अलग ही मज़ा आता था. होली में सांग भी सजते थे और होली का जुलुश भी निकलता था. घर में जमाई आने पर केशर गुलाब जल से चांदी के गुलाब पाश से होली खिलाया जाता था

हम लोगों ने नहीं देखा पर पहले शहरवाली समाज में सात आठ दिन तक होली खेल जाता था. श्री निर्मल कुमार सिंह जी नौलखा होली के बहुत शौक़ीन थे और शान से, रईसी से होली खेल करते थे.

Another Milestone for Azimganj boy

Darshan Kothari, an Azimganj boy living in Jaipur has several achievements in his carrier.Darshan is grandson of Late Shree Dhirendrapat Ji Kothari. He is well known name in IT field.  He is running his own IT Company named Vardhaman Infotech. 

Vardhaman Infotech has been placed among the first thousand IT companies worldwide.

 Elance, the biggest IT outsourcing portal has ranked Vardhaman Infotech 832 among 44600 companies registered in the portal. It is worth noted that Vardhaman Infotech had developed world’s first Kalq keyboard application for android smart phones that replaces old qwerty keyboard .Only few downloads are required in Google play store to reach 50000 mark for this application. Kalq keyboard app is available both in free and paid versions.

I came to know about two members from Late Sri Indrajeet Singh Baid family. They are placed in "Microsoft" (Seattle, USA),  the most prestigious IT company in the world. However, I do not know their names or other contact details. I will be greatly obliged if someone informs me about that.

Many of the Shaharwali people have/ had excellent career. However, we do not know all of them.  I would like to get information about those so that I can post them in this blog.  Pl inform me any achievement of any Shaharwali worldwide.

Navpad Mandal and Ashtapad Poojan at Neminath temple

Sri Vimal Singh Nowlakha has been sponsoring Navpad Mandal and Ashtapad Poojan at Neminath temple on October 18 and 19 respectively. Azimganj Sri Sangh used to organize Navpad Mandal Poojan on the last day of Navpad Oli at Sri Neminath Temple.

Sri Harakh Chand Roomal of Azimganj has innitiated Navpad Mandal Poojan at this temple many years ago. It has been continuing since then without break. The Sangh organizes this auspicious event on Sharad Poornima, last day of Navpad Oli every year with enthusiasm. It is worth noted that Sri Nowlakha, Grand son (Maternal) of Sri Roomal Ji is sponsoring the event on the auspices of Oli Parne of his wife.

There will be Ashtapad Poojan too on the next day, October 19. This Poojan will be organized after many years at Azimganj. There is great enthusiasm regarding both the Poojas.

People of Azimganj are enthusiastic about Navpad Oli and Mandal Poojan since time immemorial. They organize Mandal Poojan in the best way in India. It is great celebration.

I will be joining these events and perform both the Poojas. Suraj has arranged for every thing and I am grateful to him to provide me such opportunity.

Rai Kumar Singh Bachchhawat expired

Sri Rai Kumar Singh Bachchhawat (Bholu Babu) of Azimganj expired few days back in Kolkata. He was son of late Sri Bahadoor Singh Bachchhawat, President, Azimganj Sri Sangh. He was in old age and was suffering from illness for last few months. He was married to daughter of Sri Mukandi Lal Mookim of Kolkata and had no issue.

He was religious minded and a man of integrity and served Sri Neminath temple and the Shaharwali society with utmost sincerity through out his life.

We feel sorry for his untimely demise and pray to God for heavenly peace.
